Estimating Manager, O'Donnell & Hanlon Pty Ltd
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kempsey

After completing high school in 2001, I immediately commenced work with a local construction company, undertaking a cadetship. Whilst working full time I completed a Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) via distance education through the University of Newcastle. I graduated in 2008 & have since become a licensed building contractor in 2010.

Currently I am employed as the Head Estimator for O’Donnell & Hanlon Pty Ltd. My role as Head Estimator involves calculating the labour, materials & plant required for various projects to form a competitive bid. I work on a diverse range of projects in a number of sectors including education, health, aged care, hospitality, corrections, multi-unit housing & retail. The typical value of projects ranges from $1 million – $20 million, and are located throughout northern & western NSW. A large proportion of the work we undertake is for government clients of which a high standard of performance in quality, environmental & safety is expected.

During our visit to district 5370 I would like to observe:
·         General estimating practice including software systems
·         Innovative use of construction methodology & materials
·         Innovative structural concrete systems (alternatives to conventional formwork)
·         Prefabrication construction techniques (precast concrete, structural steel etc)
·         Construction techniques in extremely cold environments
·         Energy efficient design
·         Contractors who work in remote locations away from their main office
